IMPRESSIONS PART 6 / 10

SEMARANG ACHMAD YANI part 2 (army)

ARMY AVIATION

SELAMAT DATANG, and yes, these orange Schweizers are still in use and very operational
M
Let us start to admire some Bolkow B-105's of this base. Special ? Yes ! Because they're Indonesian !

There is always something going on at this base, such as light maintainance...

... and always something to admire too, like these plates

Let's have a look at the Bell 412's outside, while Kees interviews two pilots

Both helicopters are refuelled, and the crew gets the orders. They will fly when we are ready.

When we arrive, the bell is starting up, precautions are made...

The well known sound resounds, and after the checks the machines lift off.... (mind the startup box left)

... and fly away for their daily mission. Achmad Yani houses this Casa 212

Bell UH-1 Hueys are also present on Achmad Yani

TNI-AD means Army, the Tiger is the Mascotte of the base, and where we in Europe use large generators,
TNI-AD uses small orange startup boxes, each capable of making about 10 helicopter starts. Weight: 20 kilo !

A view on some Bolkows, they are well taken care of after each flight.

Finally another coloured one, perhaps in the old colours ?

A last surprise, an NC-212M 100/200 comes in and makes our day complete ! Thanks to all !

PONDOK CABE (Army)
ARMY AVIATION

So... we arrive at Pondok Tjabe now    A well taken care of entry of the base

Here the casa-212 has it's homebase   We had a nice day here, talking to pilots

And it appeared that we were treated on seeing both VIP planes of the base

Cockpit of the Casa   And a very luxury interior

At noon there was time for a presentation, interview and.....  a fine dinner !
Next the DHC-5 Buffalo was to be examined

It's an unusual type, and no one would suspect such a luxury on the outside

As it seems an ordinairy troop transport plane

But once inside... it's marvellous ! What a seats, complete meeting possibilities

Mrs. G. Andu was attached to the Embassy during our visit, thanks for all the translating you did for us !

Finally a last look on the raised cockpit, and the 'non-VIP' exit behind.

Thanks to all who cooperated !
